Another Music Service

Last.fm is another music service that launched a few weeks back. It requires you to download some software, but it works well and better than Pandora, it's free.

I think this service will be big.

For those of you finding it harder and harder to feel the pulse of new music, you should try it.

Homecoming I in the Books

Homecoming: The Original came and went this past weekend, with the Tribe smashing Towson while a small but dedicated collection of Lammies relived the old days of overconsumption and underachievement. A handful of fratres from the class of '90 reconvened for its 15th year milestone, among them Brothers Day, Eckert, Weaver, Tell, and Karn. After kicking off Saturday at Coby Beck's tailgate, I, along with younger fratres Gibson and Guy, joined this group in a visit over to the House Formerly Known As Pi Lambda Phi. After half a beer on the back porch, we made our way into what is now just a dorm and hunkered down for several hours, innumerable beers, a few shots of Wild Turkey courtesy of the current inhabitants of the suite, and the worst round of Z ever played. Sitting in the bar area with a good drunk on amid bad jokes still takes me back.

Friday and Saturday night the Delly was stuffed with returning alums, sprinkled with a few current students. I enjoyed hanging out with Al Haniman, pretending he was Cliff Krug (the likeness is uncanny), and letting him re-blaze the Ho Chi Minh Trail on the porches of both Pi Lam and the Delly. I was able to chat up old Lammie gals Bridget Falls, Debbie Cerrone, and Liz Rucker with all of the drunkenlust of the old days, but the only nipple I saw belonged to a leggy, blonde 6'1" student who couldn't manage to stay in her wildly inappropriate top as she talked to Weav and me. Good times.

Evan, Lud, Scoop, Matthias, and Jim Connor all received multiple toasts and dutiful acknowledgment at the alumni brickyard. Always worth a quick walk by there.

There were plenty of other stories for the weekend either too tame or too sordid to detail here, but I had yet another great trip back for Homecoming. I've only missed one in 12 years, but it kind of bums me out that the Pi Lam Homecoming numbers continue to wane. Yes, common sense says that this is the inevitable pattern and there's no amount of rallying one guy can do to reverse the trend. Clearly I have never been one for such common sense, so I'll be bugging you douchebags next year to come back all over again.

We've got a serious marketing problem here...

I was browsing around the web thinking about the next level to take the LammieWeb/LammieNet thing to. While lammies.blospot.com is a nice address, I was thinking we needed better branding. So I go to http://www.lammies.com to see if the domain may be available only to find a dog food site.

What is the world coming to. I wouldn't be so miffed right now if there were boobies or some other such content, but no. It's a half-assed web site with a cheesy dog next to a cheesy fire hydrant.

Piss me off.

On the Move

Boys, looks like I'm moving to Norfolk within a month or two. We'll be back up in the DC area as much as our schedule will allow so we can keep up with old friends, but it will be a strange adjustment for me. 12 years in NoVa/DC; good times with bad beer, good friends with bad habits. For those I don't see at Homecomings I or II, I hope to catch up with you soon.

Cheers.

Raise a glass to Dooger

Gormley is getting married today and what a memorable day it will be...for me. Manuela and I got up this morning to find an inch or two of water in our basement...joy.

Anyway, this isn't about me, it's about Craig.

Good luck!

And now for something completely different (WORK HOSTILE)

I can't even start to comprehend the trouble we could've, would've, and probably should've gotten into in college had we had access to today's modern technologies like cheap digital cameras and the Internet.

Hey, Idiots

See, when I bother to write up a Homecoming-related post, I sort of expected that at least one person might chime in that they would be there. I guess my question is: Is anyone out there actually going to Homecoming this year?

The info is contained within the Homecoming 2005 link at right under "Highlighted Posts." Nary a comment has been made, so if you are thinking about returning to the 'Burg once again, go ahead and let us know. It doesn't look like anyone is organizing a massive golf outing, but if someone wants to play, I am game.

And for those who can't make it down on October 21-23, there is always . . .

Checking In

Been out of town two of the past three weeks on vacation and traveling for work. A few tidbits...

1. Got to spend bar time with Lammies Mike Paci, Craig Gormley, and Cap Noonan in Boston, Mike Scott in NYC (as well as Little Sister Clare Ludvigsen), and Doug Malone in San Fran. All good times. Thanks to you dudes for humoring me with a few hours of beer-drinking and chuckles. Chicago, Atlanta, Dallas, and Kansas City coming up in a couple of weeks.

2. The Angry Men softball team died while I was on the road. Pitiful.

3. Does anyone else see this guy David Clowney on Virginia Tech's football team and not start laughing every time? I always think of Weenie' twanged barbs at Jonathan Downey with the "Clowney" epithet.
