Lammie-Whether

It's hot everywhere, brother. Florida hasn't cornered the market on muggy heat, they just did it before it was cool (like in the wintertime).

I was scanning the radio dial recently and just blurted out to nobody in particular how filled with shite the airwaves are of late. Really, truly, is it that hard to find a program director who can appreciate the merits of underplayed but overtalented acts? Really? Someone's radio forefathers decided once upon a time that Moz & Marr, Ian & Bernard, Frank & Kim, Robert Smith, Paul & the Stinsons, Dave Faulkner, the Johns, and Dean & Gene could all play worth a damn, and to hell with advertisers who couldn't tell. Can't it happen again? No?

Can't I lead off a set-list of eclecticism with the following 20-spot stretch?

Mike Ness & Bruce Springsteen, "Misery Loves Company"
Hindu Love Gods, "Battleship Chains"
The Waterboys, "Church Not Made With Hands"
Joe Strummer, "Get Down Moses"
Old 97's, "Four Leaf Clover"
R.E.M., "Moral Kiosk"
Golden Smog, "V"
Beastie Boys, "Looking Down the Barrel of a Gun"
Drivin' N' Cryin', "Ain't It Strange"
Metallica, "Seek & Destroy"
The Ramones, "Judy Is a Punk"
Social Distortion, "Under My Thumb [Live]"
Moby, "Honey"
Brian Wilson, "Brian Wilson [Live]"
Ween, "Tried & True"
Fishbone, "Lyin' Ass Bitch"
Random Idiots, "House of the Martha Wood"
Violent Femmes, "Do You Really Want to Hurt Me"
Steel Pulse, "A Who Responsible?"

If we ran a promotion that you could win $1000 bucks if you heard any song we played on another local radio station in the last 6 months, would that finally draw listeners to something beyond the spoon-fed creamed carrots they're playing? Somebody out there buy a radio station and hire me as program director. I'll bring my own music.
